I have had this cue for 4ish months now. The design is worth the extra you pay. I've seen the other designs and they are not nearly as elegant. The pure x low deflection shaft is the most cost effective low deflection shaft on the market. Out preforms some higher end brands and costs less, still. Comes stock with a kamui soft (which plays like a medium). Has a good solid hit for harder shots, and yet it's gentle enough for the shots that require a light touch. I became a whole new player with this cue. I know some great players that still use this cue over more expensive brands.

  • EXCELLENT Starting Cue for someone looking to get serious with their game...

The headline to this review sums up exactly where I was when I was about to purchase it. Originally I was looking for a cue that wasn't too over the top with design, but that contained some sort of blue accenting and had a fair amount of "curb appeal." Before fully deciding what to buy, I called Ozone customer support and asked the gentleman who helped me what he thought of this cue and if he would recommend it--I was a beginner/intermediate player looking to start getting more serious with my game. He let me know that this would be the perfect cue for that scenario, and I have to say that I fully agree with him. Regarding the technology in the shaft and the artwork of the butt, the cue is right in the middle between a starting cue for someone who plays from time to time (but only for fun), and a more advanced cue that an already serious player would be looking to invest in to up their game. If you're on the fence about a cue, but looking to start getting serious about playing and improving yourself, this is the perfect cue to start your journey. The HXT shaft that it comes with is definitely better than a standard maple shaft, though obviously not on the same level of minimal deflection found say in a Predator-type shaft. I would definitely recommend upgrading the your tip, and regarding a turndown, I originally kept the shaft as-is, but eventually turned it from 13mm to 12mm--WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Much better grip on the cue ball, even less deflection because there was less front-end mass, and better ability to impart more spin on the cue ball because I could be more precise on my tip placement at contact. Now I must say, given that this is a middle-level shaft, and a 1mm decrease in size is pretty substantial, it did end up warping VERY SLIGHTLY over the course of about 1.5 years. However, with the smaller diameter, I was forced to improve my aiming because of the lower error threshold a smaller tip allows for, and I truly feel I became a better player overall. Since purchasing the cue, I have upgraded the shaft, but still kept the butt--when I purchased it I had it engraved with my name, and upgraded to an Irish linen wrap, and also added weight: 21 oz. I have been able to change out the 5/16-18 pin that the butt came with for a UNI-Loc pin for more versatility, and it's been great! I HIGHLY recommend this cue for anyone who wants to start taking this fantastic sport more seriously. I promise the cue will be the perfect first stepping stone on your path to a more advanced player.

I bought this cue as my first entry into low deflection shafts. The cue is nice looking and plays great. I didn't even shape the tip. I since bought a McDermott for more money and still use the Pure-x, It jujst performs better.

A great cue with excellent results. Added a skinny shaft 11.75mm and like the performance I'm getting from this cue.

Good looking well balanced cue. I haven't had time to get much use out of it but I instantly saw the difference my first time using it. I expect great improvements in my game once I get more time with this cue.
