The G-Core also utilizes our proprietary CT Tenon Technology: a carbon fiber ferrule core which results in greater strength, efficiency and precision. The G Core Shaft features:

  • Tip: Navigator Black Medium,10 layers Japanese pigskin leather

  • good shaft

I like it better than a maple shaft lower deflection, but I like the I shaft by mcdermott even better. If you got the money spend it on the I2 shaft.

  • Best shaft for a good price.

I use the G core and love the shaft it has a lot of controll and reduces a lot ofdeglection. The first time I tried the shaft I was expecting it to react like a normall AA hard rock maple shaft but I was pleasantly suprised at how much it reduced the deflection. The cue ball would react a lot differently than with a normal Mcdermott shaft. I personally recommend it to anyone.

  • McDermott Shafts

I have several McDermott cues and every shaft McDermott makes; more importantly, I shoot with them regularly. My 2011 and 2013 Cues of the Year, COTY for short, came with McDermott's top of the line Intimidator shafts; however, my recommendations follow a budget, because not everyone can afford a $250 shaft. That doesn't mean a player has to sacrifice quality by choosing a less expensive option. The first 7 inches below the tip are McDermott's Intimidator Shaft Technology designed to reduce deflection and more accuracy.
I'm 56 years old and I've shot pool for as long as I can remember. My parents always had a nice 8 foot table for us to play and learn on. It strikes me as odd that most young players don't know what deflection is, but they all know they want to reduce it. The G-Core shaft reduces deflection greatly without reducing your wallet to nothing. If, you have a McDermott cue and want a great shaft that reduces deflection and provides greater accuracy, then this G-Core is the perfect shaft. These shafts come stock with an Everest tip made by Tiger and they are a medium to firm medium tip in my opinion. I highly recommend upgrading the tip to a Soft Kamui tip or a Kamui Super Soft tip; especially, if you have a hard stroke, most young players do, or if you want to have much more cue ball control. Kamui tips are standard equipment on McDermott I-2 and I-3 shafts, but they are also medium tips.
My recommendation is purchasing a McDermott G-Core Shaft with a Kamui tip and, if you have developed a good stroke, have the shaft radius turned down to 12mm. Be sure to get a Kamui tip that has a clear bottom layer to it. The original Kamui tan color or black tips with a clear bottom layer hit about the same on this G-Core shaft. I'm extremely satisfied with my G-Core shafts by McDermott. I hope the information here is helpful to you.

Been playing seriously for a year now and still searching for my game figured I would try a different shaft and tip really like the feel of the 12th shaft and the soft tip just trying to get Better and find my game. Ozone is the place for my billiards needs.

  • Stiff hit

The G Core seems to give me a really stiff hit. In that regard, I'm not a huge fan. I like the shaft to have some play so I can feel the response. This is very rigid.

However, it is a decent low deflection shaft and will definitely perform better than a stock McDermott shaft (although they shoot firm in my opinion as well). Just make sure the shaft fits your play style.
