Nice idea, but not reliable
By Rob from Phoenix on February 24, 2014
This is a great idea, but when the shaft is slightly smaller than the tip it does not center reliably.

Don't waste your $
By Mitch from MN on April 2, 2013
Clamp is loose on my 12mm shaft. You can't see the tip to make sure it is centered which makes trimming difficult. A large rubber band is just as effective and cheaper.

It worked for me
By Robert from VA on November 23, 2012
both reattaching an old tip and attaching a new tip - worked fine

Simple way to secure tip to shaft while glue dries. It's as easy as any clamp I've used.

Tip clamp not really that good
By Quinn from San Manuel, AZ on May 14, 2012
got this to replace some tips and used it once it does not center the tip. much easier to just hold the tip in place with finger than useing this one. way to much money for not working well.

Works great!
By Gary from Eugene, OR on May 12, 2012
Yes, it's plastic but I think it needs to be plastic so it won't scratch or dent your stick. I was a little apprehensive the first time I used it because I couldn't actually see the tip and ferrule when they met inside, but it worked perfectly!

I would recommend this item to a friend.

I tried this product twice before I threw it away! I followed the directions and wound up with a very poorly centered tip both times.

Not impressed
By Jack from APO, AE on November 30, 2011
I was not impressed with the tip clamp. It scratched my ferrule when I spun the clamp per the instructions.

Doesnt work for new tips
By Jason M. from Morris Plains, NJ on November 2, 2011
I got this so I could put new tips on my cues not reattach old tips. At first I did reattach a tip that popped and it sort of worked. The first try I had to cut off because it wasnt centered, the second try it worked a little better but still the tip isnt quite centered. Then a tried a brand new tip. The diameter of the new tip exceeds the diameter of the clamp opening so its useless. I ended up putting the tip on with my hand and then trying to trim it with the porper trimmer, see my review for that.

Very good
By Craig from Buckeye, AZ on October 9, 2011
I wasn't thrilled with the idea of putting the tip in the clamp and then placing it on the cue, hoping it would be centered. I put the tip on the cue, eyeballed it for center, and then clamped it. That worked great for me.

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Works alright...If your not fussy
By Allen from East Millinocket, ME on June 29, 2011
I'm not sure about this little gadget. I have had good luck and bad luck with it. I guess for the price and portability, its alright, but it has, on more than one occasion, clamped a tip on a shaft VERY VERY crooked. Even at its best, the tip still is not aligned perfectly, but I also do all of my on a lathe.

Garbage
By Robert from Binghamton, NY on June 23, 2011
this appears to be made of metal when in fact it is made of plastic... for the price it SHOULD be made of metal !!! I tried this thing out and completely wasted my tip!! it did NOT self center AT ALL !! in fact, my tip was about an 8th inch off from being center... very displeased with this product

6 tips wasted, each off center, advertized as self centering. There is no way to adjust the tip once in the clamp. WORTHLESS

Replace tips easy and straight
By Robert from Radford, VA on April 16, 2011
The best system for letting your tip dry and stay centered. Lots better then traingle holders and etc. Locks firmly enough without leaving marks. Cannot stress enough that this is the best. A little pricy, BUT THE BEST option, seriously- not at all endorsed ot etc, wanting to help others

I would recommend this item to a friend.

Best Tip Clamp
By Randy from Virginia on February 19, 2011
I have used them all...with the result of some point in marring my shaft due to the ring to provide pressure. I have repaired 3 tips with this and so far no marring. Works great! I wouldn't rely on this tool to make sure my tip is centered, still do that the old fashioned way. Once centered, then place this on to provide the necessary pressure. Use Tiger Insta Glue to make the centering easier and know that once you put this on it will not move the tip thanks to the glue.

Self Centering Porper's Tip Clamp
By Eugene from Clovis, CA on February 2, 2011
The Porper's Tip Clamp that automatically centers the tip anh hold it in place until the glue dries is a great tool. The only downside is that if you use too much glue it can't wiped off the ferrule unless the clamp is momentarily removed and reapplied again. Also, the replacement tip must be the exact same size (within thousandths) as the top of the ferrule to precisely center.

A Tip Replacement Tool You Need.
By DR Mann from Mukwonago, WI on December 31, 2010
When replacing a tip this is one tool you will need to complete the task successfully. This tool will press the tip tightly down forcing all air bubbles out of the glue. In addition a Tweeten Rapid Cue Top Sander (TTRCTS), a Porper's "Cut-Rite" Tip Shaper/Cutter (TTPCR1), and a bottle of Tiger Insta-Cure Tip Glue (TRTG), or any like, will be needed. 1) Clean and flatten the top of the ferrule with the Sander plus sand the finish off the bottom of the tip. 2) Place a “Thin” layer of glue both on the top of the ferrule and the bottom of the tip insuring complete surface coverage. 3) Center the tip and clamp with this tool. 4) After the glue has cured (two hours) trim the edges of the tip, aligning it to the ferrule, with the Shaper/Cutter. A Cuetec Bowtie(TTCB1), or like, will complete the job by removing the finish from the top of the tip and shaping it to you preference.

Save your money
By John from Michigan on October 27, 2010
I bought one of these thinking it would be better than the cheap rubber band style tip holders. I could never get the thing to center the tip properly. After numerous attemps I went back to the cheap ones. I have not had a problem with them. Another lesson learned the hard way.

Not what I expected
By Claudio Gálvez from Miami, Florida on October 21, 2010
This device is not useful at all... I tried to install 13 mm Lepro and Triangle tips and not only it did not center the tips, it actually distorted them and of course ruined them. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Ohhh and it's made of plastic when it seems to be made of iron.

$20 for plastic ?????
By John Ledford from Joliet , Illinois on July 30, 2010
Had i known i was getting a piece of plastic for $20 , I think i might have tried making my own ! The picture of this product was very misleading , and i think Ozone should be ashamed of them selves ! This may very well be the last time i ever buy anything from them again .

a littel small
By Thom from hereford Az. on February 8, 2010
the porper's Tip Clamp seem ez to use , a little small [I use a 14mm tip ] It will great for size's smaller then 14mm

Not really sure why it gets great reviews . . .
By Taylor on February 5, 2010
This tool is supposed to handle up to 14mm tips, but I found it unusable on 13mms. I bought three types of 13mm tips to try when re-tipping my house cues (Le Pro, Triangle, and Triumph). The Le Pro is the only tip that fit in the bottom of the clamp like it was supposed to. The others got wedged in and were not held even (meaning I was not able to get good contact with the ferrule). The tool also does a poor job of centering the tip on the cue. Other than having to re-shape the Le Pro due to poor centering, it was pretty good. I ended up having to sand down the Triumph to get it to fit and just used super glue on the Triangle.

If you're using Le Pro or smaller than 13mm tips, this thing is pretty good if you carefully center it on your cue. The clamp is a nice design and holds the tip in place very well, but it has its flaws.

By william on January 24, 2010
This toop is effective and can push down on the center of the tip. Care must still be used to keep the tip aligned.

Tip Clamp
By Larry Pritchard from Newark, DE on November 18, 2009
The tip clamp is small and very easy to use. Holds the cue tip very well until it dries.
Pros:
Very portable
Cons:
None

Hold It!
By Dan from Birmingham, AL on October 5, 2009
Perfect for holding new tip in place while glue dries. That being said, you do not need this tool if you are using the instant glues on the market today. They dry within seconds making this tool obsolete. It works great if you use the old school methods such as Tweetens 10 Minute Cement though.
Pros:
Does a good job of self centering tip and holding it in place.
Cons:
It's an old school method. You don't need a clamp with instant glue.

perfect clamp
By Mike Webb on June 17, 2009
Porper does it again! Another great product from Creative Inventions is the Porper tip clamp.I use it every time I need a new tip replacement done.It never slips...never! The best part is no scratches after using it on the ferrule.I recommend it to everyone.

Merchandise, merchandise...
By Neunerball on October 19, 2008
If you doubt your sight and your fingers, you might have to use it.

After about 18 years of billiard and many tips replaced, I\'ve had better results without it!
