Awesome!
By David from , on June 18, 2012

This is definitely alot better then any mushrooming tool I have used. I did scratch up my ferrule when i used it, but I think that it was my fault. Used it on my friends cue and it was fine.

Not surgical steel blade, have purchased three of these and 1 replacement blade. Dull very easily. I would rather have the money back.
Not what you might expect
By Daytona Jay's Pool School from Daytona Beach, florida on April 19, 2012

This is a good tool for someone who already has there tip mounted and just wants to trim it after it get mushroomed. I used it on a new tip and it sliced up the tip pretty good, it took me half of the tip to trim it back down to where it was supposed to be. Again, good for mushroomed tips only, dont buy this to install new tips. youll just make a mess.
Tip Cutter
By Tom from Vermont USA on March 24, 2012

might be great for general tip maintenance but is not suited for tip replacement since most tips are 14mm and it will not except them.
good for radius tip
By Tom Arendt from Vermont USA on March 16, 2012

tool works great for radiusing a tip but as far as trimming a tip it ruined a brand new Karomi tip do not waste your money on this.
Great Trimmer
By Charles from Moyie Springs, ID on March 12, 2012

I repair cues for people and this is what I carry around with me for trimming purposes. The Trimmer on this works great. I docked the one star because I don't like the shaper. I haven't messed with the shaper to see if I can make it work more to my liking or not because I have other shapers that work to my liking. I bought this for the trimmer alone and it does exactly what I like it to do.

Porper's tip shaper
By Joe from Salt Lake City, Utah. on March 8, 2012

This tool works really well. I had been using an 'abrasive' type shaper ; but, this gives a much more uniform radius.

porpers cut-rite
By daniel from everson,wa on February 16, 2012

it works great but you must try it before attempting a good cue. I read the reviews that suggested thisand found it good advice. I did all the tips at our sr. center and now everyone can use a newly tipped cue.

"Rite" Tool For Job

Get something better
By Matt from Maxton, NC on February 6, 2012

Does an ok job at cutting mushrooms, the shaper is difficult to use, many times leaving an uneven cut tip, does not cut tip down to far enough leaves a tacky looking ring around bottom of tip
Works great
By Robert from DC Metro Area on January 3, 2012

Was able to "re profile" the tips on a couple of cues that needed it badly - no more mushrooms!

Porper's ' Cut-Rite" Tip Shaper/Cutter
By Charles from ,Everett, Washington on December 5, 2011

Have put quite a few tips on pool cues over the years for myself and for friends. Always trimmed them by hand-(razor blade and sand paper). I don't expect to ever do that again. Borrowed one of these gadgets from a friend a short time ago-that is why I had to buy one for myself. Really have no use for the shaper, but the cutter has sold me.
I would recommend this item to a friend.

Doesnt work for new tips
By Jason M. from Morris Plains, NJ on November 2, 2011

So I tried the tip trimmer for a newly installed tip (Kamui Black). The new tip is too big to fit into the opening so it wouldnt work. I then trimmed the tip by hand until I could get it into the trimmer opening. Then I realized that the tip trimmer didnt allow the tip to go deep enough in the tool to trim down to the ferrule. So I took the tip trimmer apart and bored it out with a drill so that it was slightly wider and deeper. This worked ok but I ended up with a slightly lop sided cut with one side of the tip being slightly tapered and the other being straight.
Tip Cutter

Works well to remove a mushroomed cue tip. Nice tool to have as a pool cue accessory,

It works
By Craig from Buckeye, AZ on October 9, 2011

I the read reviews and took it easy cutting so I wouldn't have a possible blade failure. The results were excellent. When they say it is 13mm they mean it. I had to trim a little off with a knife before the shaper/cutter would go on.
I would recommend this item to a friend.
AMAZING!!!

By joselito from , on September 19, 2011

it works, but not as I expected. Thick shaft 13mm + probably won't go in.
Good idea poorly executed
By John Edwards from Grants Pass, OR on September 17, 2011

Do not use this product on quality cue tips. Okay for $1.00 tips. The overall concept is good but the blade is not very sharp and only a small portion of the cutting edge is available for use. I had to remove the blade and sharpened it myself. I'll only use it on house cues.
Popers tip shaper
By Tad Richards from claremore oklahoma on August 26, 2011

Tore tip instead of cutting smooth. Not recommended.
not as I expected...
By jason from hayward, CA on July 14, 2011

I thought this tool would be a bit more durable, I used it twice and second time the blade broke, cant "cut-rite" if dont cut at all...
Porper's Cut Rite Tip Shaper/Cutter
By Ruben from Inland Empire, Ca on June 16, 2011

I am a bit in between on this product. For one it does an amazing job as it is designed for but on the other hand it is not designed to accept 14MM tips. It barely takes a 13 MM tips. So even anything in between will not work. On top of that the hinge broke.
Again, this is a confusing review because the product if it were designed better would be a great product.
Great tool
By Rich from Seattle, Washington on May 30, 2011

This is so simple to use and it saves so much time and money. You won't scratch you ferrel, witch can happen if sandpaper is used. It's fast and makes the perfect cut and shape. If you do your own work on your cues, This is a must have tool in your Billiards tool box.
I would recommend this item to a friend.
I consider this item to be excellent quality. I would buy this item again.
By Larry Severson from Missouri on May 28, 2011

OK for most tips...
By KBinc from Abq. NM on March 18, 2011

once you trim down to barely over 13mm. I can do this easily with fine belt on 2" vertical sander, but probably should have heeded a couple of the other reviews and also ordered the Porper Tip Grazer to initially trim the 14mm tips down. Or lay out more $$ for a tool that does it all. I found that the non adjustable for tip thickness will not trim a NEW thick tip (as in Diamondback Boar Hide or?) down to the ferrule, even if radiused some. You must get rid of some perfectly good tip to trim clear down to the ferrule.
The nickle radius end works well (have only used on tips already trimmed to 13mm). Some harder tips I do the bulk of removal with it then finish with a cube nickle shaper/scuffer. For the price, I will recommend. Ken

Easy To Use Porper Cut-Rite Tip Shaper & Mushroom Cutter
By Eugene from Clovis, CA on January 30, 2011

This easy to use tool will cut away the slight mushroom from the tip using one tool end, and shapen the radius of the tip with the opposite tool end. On new 14mm installed tips you may have to use the Porper Mushroom Grazer initially, since the barrel of the Cut-Rite tool is limited. Also, slightly moisten the cue tip prior to cutting. The barrel will sometimes leave a black ring on the ferrule, but that can be removed easily using Sil Kleen ferrule cleaner.
I would recommend this item to a friend.
WOW!!! THIS REALLY WORKS UP TO 13MM
By Mary A from nyc on January 21, 2011

This is the most fantastic tool I have purchased for trimming and shaping my cue tips correctly. I am awed at the sturdy and simple construction. The picture shows that the blade is lighter than what I received , so it took a few moments to realize that the balde on my unit was the same black as the tool itself. This made no difference to how quickly and accurately it trimmed the tip. It does leave a ring around the ferrel but it is easily removed with a damp cloth and some mild pressure.
I would recommend this item to a friend.
Good purchase
By Chad from Twin Falls, ID on January 17, 2011

I buy online because of selection and I am an impulse buyer. They take care of my fix by getting things in the mail quickly and safely.
Use caution when using tool as it can take a bit too much off. As long as you are careful, no worries

13MM and less Tip Cutter
By DR Mann from Mukwonago, WI on January 8, 2011

The Porper's "Cut-Rite" Tip Shaper/Cutter is designed to complete two functions of tip replacement, cut the edge of the tip even with the ferrule and scrape the top of the top of the tip to a nickel convex shape. The tool works on tip diameters of 13mm and less but is designed for 13mm. Diameters less then 13mm require some careful work. Six items are needed to successfully replace a tip: New Tip of the current diameter and desired hardness; Tweeten Rapid Cue Top Sander (TTRCTS); Tiger Insta-Cure Tip Glue (TRTG); Porper's Tip Clamp(TTPTC1); Porper's Cut-Rite Tip Shaper/Cutter(TTPCR1); and a Cuetec Bowtie (TTCB1). Each of these tools can be replaced by a like tool that accomplishes the function. The tasks are: cleaning and flattening to top of the ferrule parallel to the center of the shaft plus sanding the finish off of the button of the new tip(TTRCTS); coating the bottom of the new tip and the top of the ferrule with the glue(TRTG); attaching and centering the tip then clamping for designated cure time(TTPTC1); trimming the edge of the tip even with the ferrule cylinder edge(TTPCR1); and finally scraping the finish the top of the tip and shaping to the desired convex curve(TTCB1). The Porper's "Cut-Rite" Tip Shaper side can scrape the top of the tip but leaves a ruff nickel. The Cuetec Bowtie allows either a nickel or a dime convex curve plus aeration of the tip with the pick. Three critical items can cause a failed result. Not sanding the finish off the bottom of the new tip (glue will not completely adhere to finish), not completely coating both the bottom of the tip and the top of the ferrule with a thin layer of glue, or attempting to trim the tip before the glue is completely cured, for Tiger that is two hours. I purchased my unit from oZone over five years ago and the cutter edge is still sharp.

Great trimmer!
By Randall from Goldsboro, NC on October 22, 2010

The trimmer removes the overlapping section of the tip really well. I hate it when the tip mushrooms. This removes that area quickly and easily.

Cut-Rite Shaper/ Cutter
By Siegy from Winchester, CA on March 25, 2010

Porper's "Cut-Rite" Tip Shaper/Cutter does what it is called. Easy to use and does it so well that all of my TAP team members use my "Cut-Rite" regularly. An outstanding buy for the money.

CUTS TIPS LIKE A HOT KNOFE THROUGH BUTTER
Damage to Tip
By Thayer from Ventura, CA on February 21, 2010

I have two Cues, both 13mm tips. Both tips are of medium hardness. I used the shaper and cutter. It was advertised to be used up to 13mm tips. I followed the instructions for shaping/cutting my tips. It destroyed the side of my tips, cutting it down to 11mm tips. I used the shaper and it damaged them to the point that they had to be replaced. The instructions were very lacking, stating only to use one side for shaping and the other for cutting. There were no other instructions on use, nothing stating how hard to push, nothing depicting what the tip should look/feel like when done. This tool may be fine for hard 11mm tips, but for any other type, I would strongly suggest buying another tool.
Awesome
By jason from Booneville, Kentucky on February 9, 2010

Cuts your tip perfect everytime without shaving your ferrule.
Pretty good product, but wouldn't use it on my expensive cues . . .
By Taylor on February 5, 2010

This thing does a good job of trimming the tip, but to get it flush with the ferrule it inevitably leaves a ring around your ferrule that you'll have to remove. Even if never used with a chalked tip, it will leave a red leather residue. I was re-tipping house cues, so a little light sanding did the job and they turned out nicely. I don't think I'll be using this on my expensive cues though.
By Fernando from Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 2, 2010

Great Tool!!
By Dennis from "Churchville,Va." on December 7, 2009

Upon receiving the "Cut-Rite," I found that it worked exactly as described, and the cutter was sharper than what I would have thought.
Pros:
Small and easy to carry, for it fits right in your pant's pocket with ease!!Cons:
Slight staining of the ferrule on my cue, but I believe it can be easily remedied. "Great tool to have in your pool cue case!!"
By Dennis from Churchville, Va. on December 7, 2009

Pros:
This product is extremly easy to use and the cutter's blade seems relatively sharp. Fits easily in your pant's pocket.Cons:
Slight, very minor scuffing of the ferrule on my cue.SHARP SHOOTER now!
By MAC HERB from Racine wisconsin on November 29, 2009

my tips are the best they have ever ben, My english is the best it's ever ben wish i new about this tool sooner
THANKS MAN!
Pros:
eazy to useCons:
would look better if metalMust have tool
By william coburn from virginia on November 26, 2009

This tool is effective and the blades can be purchased when worn out. A must have for new tips. But the tip must be shaped fairly close to the shaft and shaved carefully. If your tip is not ready for cutting this tool can take off too much. Reasonable price for a long lasting tool, I have replaced the blades twice.
Pros:
Professional results when used with care. Can compensate for mushroomed tipsCons:
Can depend on how the tool is applied. Be careful to keep the cue centered. The tip shaper can stain the ferrule if not kept clean
