Very Good Product

I picked up this product to become a better pool player. I wanted to learn how to perform english, trick, position and strategy shots. This DVD collection did good in all areas. Now I just need to soak it all in and do a lot of practice and playing to perfect it all. I do wish they would have spent more time on using the banks or how to shoot off them more but other than that this is a good learning DVD.

I was tired of all the old productions of pool videos... Nice to see the next generation of instruction videos. Its great for beginners. The transition music gets alil annoying whn you watch it over and over but overall a good video.

Two good discs on one dud

If you've ever watched a beginner's pool instructional dvd then you can skip disc 1. If you haven't, go find any other beginner's dvd and watch it instead. Disc 1 is designed for someone who has never heard of the game before, and it makes the same mistakes that other discs of its kind makes. It tries to cover too much in too short of a time and therefore never covers anything that really is necessary, like stance and alignment. Disc 1 has nothing of any real value and is therefore not recommended.
Disc 2 and 3, however, do have value. The production is quite good. Topics such as kicking, banking, and position play are well covered. The biggest drawback is that each topic is broken up amongst the discs. Kicking has 6 or 7 sections but they aren't in any good order. I'm not sure if this decision was made because they thought it was more progressive or simply to sell more discs but it is very annoying. Similiarly, the chapter selection is by group, not by individual chapters. So, for someone wanting to just study kicks it becomes very difficult to use this dvd set for that purpose.
All in all, it's not a bad compilation but it has some serious drawbacks.

I was hoping for more of a "tips from the master" based product, instead the entire set is narrated by a voice over guy and Mika never says a word, he's just the guy that they use to illustrate perfect form.
I enjoyed watching but didn't get much out of it to substantially improve my game

NOT - Mika Immonen

First off this set is not instruction by Mika Immonen, it is 100% narrated by someone. He is in the background at times executing the shots but not in sync with the instruction.
2nd this video lacks the "How to" on most topics. For example the section on 8 & 9 Ball "Breaks" it doesn't tell you how to execute the shot to put the cue ball in the center of the table. This lack of "How To" is found on a lot of other topics also, such as the sections on "English".
Very disappointing to say the least. I'm going to call and see if I can return the set.

Amazing DVD Set

I am an advanced p[layer and found that this DVD set helped improve my game. I found that DVD's had something to offer my game in every aspect and gave me shots to work on. I also improved my pattern play which helped me get through more runouts. I would recommend this DVD set to any beginner to advanced players.

1. Add an overhead camera and show in stop time the exact table location.
2. Then explain what is going to happen and how it is going to happen.
3. Then show Mika shooting the shot.
4. Then show a diagram in stop time of what happened.
In this way the viewer can use his/her Pause Button to stop the diagram and make notes, for example, on file cards so that they can have a personal library of shots. Better yet, you provide the series of card which illustrate eqch shot which is carefully explained for the use of the client.

i thought this dvd would help but it did not. Mika is my favorite pool player but the dvd is to basic an it was not to tactical for me. The best things I can say about the dvd is when Mika is doing run outs in the bonus part of the dvd. It just amazes me on how Mika gets position on the next object ball. If you want to analyze on how Mika plays, I would get this dvd to see why Mika is one of the best pool player around.

I have a huge stack of dvds on pool. so many of them are crap. it would seem that most good players can't teach. but not so with Mika. He does a good job of systematically teaching all the basics of pool in a very understandable way. other dvds make a mess of many important topics - for example, throw, squirt and curve. this dvd explains them in a very straightforward way. i've already adjusted my game for throw - before this i was always scratching my head when a high angle shot was missed and i was certain i aimed perfectly using the ghost ball technique. now that i understand throw, i compensate for this and make the shot. and this dvd set seems to have something for players of every skill level. and it is 1000% better than the other pool dvds i have.

This video has much to offer, whether you are a veteran player or new to the game. Absolutely packed with tips, techniques and how-to's. What I didn't like was the speed of each segment, things moved along way to quickly, there was not enough explanation and demonstration of the techniques. You will find yourself using the rewind a lot. Practice drills would have been nice. Also I found the sound track between segments irritating . Overall I wouldn't rate it all that high, it's too fast it's too expensive but it's probably the best.

While I did learn a few things...I thought the whole format moved along far too quickly bouncing from concept to concept with very little continuity leaving one with the feeling of "catch this if you can" rather than real "teaching". I thought Mica could have at least provided the monologue to give it a personal touch rather than the droll, impersonal announcer- type voice. This production seemed to be content with having Mika flit around the table performing at his usual tournament rhythm offering no particular insight with regard to the techniques used to accomplish HIS ends from HIS point of view which left the whole thing, in my opinion, exceedingly generic in terms of "instruction". I mean, you don't walk away from these videos saying to yourself "thanks, Mica, for sharing your wisdom" but rather, "thanks, Mica, for another mysteriously fine tournament performance...good luck in YOUR career ". At several points, the old Mizerac "just showin' off " mantra seemed more apropos than any kind of sharing of information or "instruction". Finally.....I have been around Mika enough to appreciate both his playing ability AND his charming (mostly) personality which if I were his producer, I would implore him,accent and all, to employ.

These dvd's are so well produced, they are amazing. From the lessons to the extras, especially the 8 ball and 9 ball run outs Mika narrates are just awesome. I totally recommend these discs.

I have been able to watch all three DVD's and I have found that they are very helpful and show things very simply. I love it. I have already noticed that I am seeing little things more clearly and with some practice more with become natural. Thank you for this instruction.

These are pretty good overall. The first two dvd's are more for beginners to medium skill level players but the 3rd dvd will make even make a skilled player happy. Will probably teach you something you didnt know or reinforce what you did.

Mika Immonen Magic

This 3 DVD set is a great addition to my library. However, the beginning lead in graphics for each chapter were a bit annoying. However, you soon forgot them as Mika began his pool shooting magic. I would have liked to see more instruction and less quick and redundant shot making by Mika. I know he is great, and I enjoy watching him shoot, but that is not why I bought the DVD's. He also allowed time for a couple of his friends to waste my time watching them shoot pool, and I considered it more filler than substance. There needs to be more information on these types of instructional DVD's. I think this set is overpriced, but I'm still hoping that it will assist me in mastering my pool game. I rated Mika's DVD set high because the instructional sections are extremely valuable. I just wanted more personal instructional advice from the master Mika.
