Dart Boards are set at 5’ 8” from the floor to the bulls-eye’s center with the board in the 12 o’ clock position. Steel tip dart boards come with a screw that you can secure into the back of the board. You typically put the screw directly behind the double bulls-eye. Once the screw is fastened, use the protruding section of the screw to slide it into a special bracket attached to the wall. By sitting the screw in this secured bracket, you can easily rotate the dart board any way you want.
The distance used for throwing steel tip darts is 7’ 9 ¼” from the face of the board to the toe line of the wall. This distance was made standard in the 1970s for international competitions. To follow this standard, measure the height and then hang the dart board. Once it’s hung, measure from the bulls-eye to the floor 9’ 7 3/8”. This will be the front of your throw line.
The distance used for throwing soft tip darts is 8 feet from the face of the board to the toe line of the wall. To follow this standard, measure the height and then hang the dart board. Once it’s hung, measure from the bulls-eye to the floor 9’ 9 1/2”. This will be the front of your throw line.
Steel tip darts are played on bristle dart boards while soft tip darts are played on electronic dart boards. Both types of board are divided into pie-shaped sections with the bulls-eye in the center and each slice a number from 1 to 20. Two rings are on the dart board, with the outer ring counting double and the inner ring counting triple the points. There is also an inner and outer ring surrounding the bulls-eye. The outer bulls-eye ring is worth 25 points while the inner one is 50.
Many sisal fibers glued to the dart board make up the dart board’s bristles. These bristles are self healing, so the hole caused by the steel tip dart closes once another dart lands near the initial puncture. With the nature of these fibers, steel tip dart boards can be long-lasting, especially recreationally. You can also rotate the board and remove the outer ring, which helps with board longevity.
